At our dental practice in Reading, we believe that everyone deserves a smile they can truly be proud of, regardless of age. That's why we're delighted to introduce our newest addition to the team – an experienced orthodontist dedicated to delivering top-notch orthodontic care to patients of all ages.
Orthodontic treatment involves moving teeth into a position that is better for appearance, the way your teeth mesh together when you bite and your overall oral health. As the forces used to move teeth are gradual, orthodontic treatment can take many months to reach the end result. The smile that you achieve at the end is worth the wait.

Dr Luis Salvador Marval Mendoza was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1970. He studied at the Central University of Venezuela, obtaining a Bachelors degree in Dentistry in 1995. For the next few years he worked as a teaching assistant at the Orthodontics Department of the Central University of Venezuela and was then accepted onto the Master of Orthodontics program in 1999 at the University. Completion of his studies in 2002 saw him awarded the title of Specialist in Orthodontics in Venezuela. In the following years Luis has worked in both public and private services with different multidisciplinary teams completing many complex cases.
More about LuisThe benefits of teeth straightening are numerous. Bite issues, such as an overbite or underbite, can cause jaw problems and tooth wear. Orthodontics can realign the jaw as well as correct the position of teeth.
When teeth overlap, it creates spaces where plaque and tartar can develop. These places are hard to reach when cleaning, which makes gum disease more likely to be a problem. Straightening the teeth reduces the chance of tartar building and can help keep your mouth bacteria-free.
Having crooked teeth or gaps in your smile can make you feel a little self-conscious. A straight smile is instantly noticeable and often what people aspire to the most when deciding to have cosmetic treatment.
Start your orthodontic journey with usThere are different orthodontic treatments available at our dentist in Reading. More complex cases often need fixed braces, which deliver very precise movements. Fixed braces are traditionally made from metal brackets that fit onto the teeth with wires placed through the brackets. The wires are tightened during the treatment, encouraging the teeth to move. We can also offer more cosmetic options such as ceramic braces. These fixed braces are nearly invisible due to the tooth-coloured wires.
Whether you're after clear braces for teens, or orthodontics for adults in Reading, we offer a comprehensive range tailored to your unique needs. From traditional fixed braces to advanced Damon braces, we have the expertise and technology to transform your smile efficiently and effectively.
When it comes to correcting alignment issues and problematic bites, fixed braces are incredibly effective and reliable. Metal fixed braces are a common choice for teeth straightening due to their versatility and ability to correct a multitude of issues. They are also affordable and provide long-lasting results.
These consist of metal brackets that are attached to the front surface of the teeth and thin metal wires held in place with elastics. Brackets are now generally smaller than they once were. Metal braces are a highly effective teeth straightening option.
These braces are ‘self-ligating’ which means you don’t need to have elastic ties fitted on the brackets, making them much smaller than traditional braces. There’s no need to visit for tightening as they do all this themselves. Damon braces can be metal or clear.
Ceramic braces offer a discreet alternative to traditional metal braces, making them a popular choice for patients seeking a more subtle orthodontic treatment option. Made from clear or tooth-coloured materials, ceramic braces blend in with the natural colour of your teeth, minimising their visibility.
Despite their subtle appearance, ceramic braces are highly effective at straightening teeth and correcting bite issues.

We create your bespoke treatment plan and make sure you are completely happy with it.
Your bespoke orthodontic treatment will begin, and we will keep a close eye on your progress at regular appointments, ensuring each stage of the treatment is going smoothly.
Fixed orthodontic treatment duration varies depending on the severity of the misalignment and individual patient factors. On average, treatment can last anywhere from 12 months to 36 months. We will provide a personalised estimate during your initial consultation.
Initially, patients may experience some discomfort or soreness after getting their braces adjusted. However, this discomfort typically subsides within a few days as your mouth adjusts to the pressure. Over-the-counter pain relievers and orthodontic wax can help alleviate any discomfort during this adjustment period.
While you may need to make some adjustments to your diet to avoid damaging your braces, you can still enjoy most of your favourite foods. It's best to avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods that can damage the brackets or wires. We can provide a list of foods to avoid and offer tips for maintaining good oral hygiene during treatment.
Typically, patients with fixed braces need to visit every 4 to 8 weeks for adjustments. During these appointments, we will tighten the wires or make other necessary adjustments to ensure your teeth are progressing according to plan.
Yes, wearing retainers after fixed orthodontic treatment is essential to maintain the results and prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original positions. We will provide detailed instructions on how often to wear your retainers to ensure long-term success.
