Lucy’s Return

We are pleased to welcome back from maternity leave our Hygienist Lucy Field. Lucy had her baby boy Chase in March 2014. She has enjoyed her time off being a first time mum but is excited to be back doing the job she loves. Great to have you back Lucy!

Lucy also ran the Reading Half Marathon on Sunday 22nd March, and completed the run in less than two hours. Well done Lucy!

New staff

We would like to welcome our new trainee dental nurse Charlotte Neagus to the Kendrick View team. Charlotte previously worked at The Orthodontic Centre in Reading as a trainee orthodontic nurse and is now looking to further her knowledge in general practice and specialised treatments. Charlotte will be sitting her dental nurse exams in May.

Noel’s Patient – OBE

We are proud to announce that one of our patients, Emeritus Professor Ian Mills FRS has been appointed OBE in the New Year Honours 2015 for services to Chemistry and Metrology: the science of measurement. Professor Mills enjoyed a great personal success in persuading his peers that the basic units of the world’s main system of measurement should be based exclusively on the fundamental constants of physics.

He was the lead author of two papers (in 2005 and 2007) which proposed that it was timely for the Système international d’unités (SI) to be liberated from the variability of the metal cylinder currently defining the kilogram: a material artefact whose mass, by its very nature, cannot be absolutely stable.

An immediate benefit of this advance is that the SI – used across science, technology and commerce – becomes more stable, precise and useful, and that the worlds of atomic and cosmic physics can be united.

Professor Mills said “It certainly gives me a warm and humbling feeling to be receiving an OBE.”

Brushing Away Fear of the Dentist (Article on website)

If you are nervous of the dentist, you’re not alone. NHS figures indicate that around a quarter of us suffer from some kind of anxiety when it comes to visiting the dentist. In addition, 30% of adults have said that having a tooth drilled would make them feel very or extremely anxious, and 20% suggested similar levels of concern about having a local anaesthetic injection.

When asked about these unfortunate but hardly surprising figures, Dr Noel Hatton, a dentist at Kendrick View Dental Practice in Reading, commented: ‘Feeling anxious about visiting the dentist can have a big effect on the sufferer’s oral health because they tend to avoid making an appointment until they are really in need, perhaps in great pain. This, unfortunately, reinforces the idea that the dental practice is a scary place because treatment is then needed.

‘What we want our patients to understand is that by visiting the dentist and hygienist regularly we can catch any potential problems in their very earliest stages and put in place a plan with the aim of avoiding those treatments that tend to scare people.

‘Whatever the reason for a patient’s visit, whether they’re new or established, coming in for a check-up or in pain, at Kendrick View we are fully aware our patients may be a little nervous and unsure what to expect, so we work hard to put them at ease. We pride ourselves on the friendly approach of our staff and all our dentists have great diagnostic skills married with an empathetic approach.’

If you would like more information about how the friendly team of experts at Kendrick View Dental Practice can help you overcome your fears and achieve a happy smile, visit, call 0118 959 0222 or email
