Autumn 2021…… It’s been a long time since you last heard any news from us, in the form of a newsletter anyway, but we are here now and ready to fill you in on all the changes we’ve had at Kendrick View over the last 18 months! No-one ever expected to be in this position, adapting our lives and learning to cope with ‘the new normal’, and here at Kendrick View we had some big changes to make to the way in which we worked, making sure we kept both patients and staff safe.
We’ll start by saying a big thank you to all our patients for bearing with us throughout those changes and trusting us to continue to provide you with the best dental care in the safest way. You’ve all been so supportive.
Also, a big thank you to all our staff for remaining so loyal and hardworking throughout the pandemic, each one of you have dealt with the changes in a mature manner, never complaining, even after long treatments in your stealth masks!
We know we’re not quite there yet, so we are still taking the right precautions and following the guidelines to continue working in the safest way we can.
Please may we ask you for the following:
• Wait in your car when you arrive at the practice
• Call us to let us know you have arrived
• Call or ring on the back doorbell if you walked, cycled, or caught the bus to us
• Wear a mask when moving throughout the building
We have opened our waiting room for patients that don’t have the option of waiting in their car or the weather isn’t kind enough for you to sit and enjoy our garden. The seats are still socially distanced, and we will monitor the amount of people using it as we move into the winter months.
Thank you for your understanding.

New Staff:
We would like to introduce you to the new faces of the Kendrick View team.
This is Sarah.
Sarah joined us on reception in October 2020 but isn’t unfamiliar with some of the team as she used to work alongside Dr Hargreaves as his dental nurse over 20 years ago! Since then, she has worked in other practices in a variety of roles, including practice manager. It’s great to have Sarah back, she is an asset on the desk and her bubbly, caring personality is noticed by patients and staff. Sarah loves spending time with family. Her and her husband have three grown up children and three dogs which keep them very busy, making shorts breaks to cottages by the sea, Sarah’s favourite pastime.
This is Megan.
Joining us in August 2020, Megan has taken on the role of trainee dental nurse, assisting the nurses and hygienists with their instruments, monitoring the surgeries and helping when needed. She also monitors the back door, taking patient temperatures and assisting patients to the correct waiting area or surgeries. Megan is a valued member of staff; she works hard and is thoughtful and helpful. Out of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her family, boyfriend and her 2-year-old cousin, Reg, as well as painting and baking.
This is Shani.
Shani joined us in July 2021 as a fully qualified dental nurse and is working alongside Dr Maini and Dr Madani Wednesday through to Friday. Shani started working in dentistry as a receptionist in 2016 before becoming a nurse. She qualified in January 2019 whilst working at Reading Smiles then moved on to work at Define Clinic Practice in September 2019 to gain experience in cosmetic, orthodontic, implant surgery and sedation. Shani fits in well to the team and is adapting to the way in which both her dentists work.
In her spare time, when not ferrying around her 10-year-old son to football training and games, Shani enjoys exercise and attends boot camp.
This is Beth.
In August 2020, Beth joined the Kendrick View team as a trainee dental nurse. She was teamed up alongside Dr Bhangu, whose nurse Chelsie had decided to change her career path and apply to work on reception. Beth’s training has gone very well, she settled into the role quickly and efficiently and is a key part of the team. Her final exam takes place on November 21st. Good luck Beth!
Outside of work, Beth has a keen interest in Tennis and has recently taken up lessons, she also enjoys spending time with her friends or heading up to London catching a west end show.
This is Chelsie.
Chelsie has worked with us at Kendrick View for 8 years. Many of our patients may remember her as Dr Noel Hatton’s nurse. She continued to work alongside him and then his successor Dr Bhangu until an opportunity arose to work on reception. Chelsie felt it was time to try something new as she had an interest in the administration side for some time. Since August 2020 Chelsie was thrown in the deep end whilst we were organising a new working strategy during the pandemic, she dealt with the new role efficiently, quickly adapting to reception life and is a joy to have on the desk. In her spare time Chelsie enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and going on long walks with her dog Albus.

Goodbyes!
During the pandemic we said goodbye to Amy, our long-standing receptionist. Amy worked at Kendrick View for 18 years, starting her career as a dental nurse but realised soon after she preferred reception. Many of you will remember Amy for her bubbly personality, her laugh and how personable she was with patients and staff. She is missed greatly. Amy now works in the police, something she has always wanted to pursue, and is enjoying every minute of her new job!
In October last year we saw the end of an era as our Practice Manager, Judith Chandler, retired after 49 years of service. Judith’s work ethic, guidance and encouragement helped not only patients but staff too. She was not just a co-worker but a friend, and it’s hard to imagine Kendrick View without her. She is greatly missed but we are lucky that Judith is still working behind the scenes up in Yorkshire helping us with admin and that we get to see her monthly when she is down to visit friends.

Our new Practice Manager Hannah Blay
As many of you are now aware we have a new Kendrick View Practice Manager, Hannah. Most of our patients will know Hannah from her 27-year career with us, in dental nursing roles but for the longest stretch on reception. Hannah’s ability and skill has made for a seamless transition into the role, and she has dealt with every obstacle in a sensitive, thorough and professional manner. Taking over in the middle of a pandemic is not a task for the faint hearted, so well-done Hannah!

Mark’s Fellowship Award
As many of you remember, Mark Hargreaves, one of our dentists, was a general dentist and partner here for many years. Over the years he developed a particular interest in Occlusion, treating many patients with problem bites and with head and neck pain related to their bite. In 2018 Mark stepped back from general dentistry but still works with us, concentrating on his special interest in Occlusion and Temporo-Mandibular Disorders (TMD).
He is a committee member of the British Society for Occlusal Studies, for whom he teaches and runs courses. He now teaches these skills to fellow dentists through courses organised at Kendrick View and sees patients from around the country.
Because of his interests in these related subjects, he has also taken several courses in the USA. He joined the American Equilibration Society in 2001 and this year, as well as becoming a Life Member of AES, he is proud to be one of the first members, and the first dentist in the United Kingdom, to be awarded their newly introduced Fellowship. Fellowship status in AES recognizes and awards members of the AES who have made the appropriate commitment to the field of dentistry through continuing education, particularly in the area of occlusion, TMD, and comprehensive care.
Sadly, this year’s meeting was online, but he hopes travel rules allow him to go to Chicago again in February 2022 to attend the AES Meeting, meet up with friends and receive his award in person.
With Andrew McDonnell and Prof Jeff Okeson at AES in 2019.

Christmas is coming!
With Christmas only around the corner it’s time to start thinking about the festive parties and family gatherings which are all long overdue. After all this time I’m sure you’ll want to be looking your best for the occasion so have you thought about teeth whitening?
At Kendrick View we offer a home whitening kit called White Dental Beauty. This comes in various strengths depending on suitability and offers a simple step by step procedure to achieve great results.
We would initially need to book you for an impression appointment, the impressions would be sent to a lab and returned to us within two weeks. You can then come in for your second appointment to check the trays fit correctly and the dentist would run through the whitening process for you to do at home. We supply 8 syringes of whitening in the initial whitening cost, any further syringes can be purchased from us when needed.
Whitening is usually £450 but this year we are offering a Christmas discount price of £390 running from 1st November.
If you are interested, please contact us on reception by calling 0118 9590222 or email the practice at reception@kendrickdental.co.uk
