Gum Problems Continued

As plaque builds, poisons produced by bacteria make the gums inflamed. As the inflammation progresses the gum breaks away from the tooth and causes a pocket to form. This is known as periodontal disease. Some people have a very low resistance and are much more prone to periodontal disease. New evidence also shows a link between periodontal disease and more general health problems including heart disease.

Plaque removal is the key to successful treatment. At Kendrick View our team of hygienists work together with your dentist to develop a tooth-cleaning plan to suit you. We will show you how to clean effectively. You need to clean your teeth thoroughly every day if you are going to combat gum disease. To help your cleaning we will remove all the hard calculus and any overhanging fillings. This may require several visits. After this initial course of treatment we will arrange regular visits to monitor the progress of your condition and help you keep on top of the problem.
